POSTPONED TO 2021 – Interfacial Chemistry and Charge Transfer for Energy Storage and Conversion
07/20/2020 - 07/24/2020
Meeting Description:

The purpose of this Telluride Science Research Center (TSRC) workshop is to encourage communication and discussion of new ideas related to chemistry and charge transfer at interfaces. These phenomena are essential ingredients for understanding and optimizing electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices such as batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells. Experimental tools with increased spatial and temporal resolution, as well as novel theoretical methods, are both needed to characterize interfacial processes in these systems. Growing interest in vehicle electrification and grid-based storage has driven this area to become increasingly interdisciplinary. Furthermore, opportunities exist to more closely link experiment and theory. This workshop will foster the formation of these linkages by bringing together top scientists from academia, industry, and government. Experimental and theoretical talks will be interwoven to facilitate closing the experiment-theory loop. The unique format of this conference is designed to maximize productive discussion between these interdisciplinary groups. This workshop is the 2nd in a series initiated in 2016 at TSRC.

Notes:

Overview talks that summarize the speaker's research over the past several years are strongly discouraged. Rather, speakers should provide a detailed description of a single technical concept (i.e., a deep dive) that is connected to the workshop theme. Expect many questions and interruptions. Typical talks should allocate 40 minutes for the presentation, and 20 minutes for discussion. The workshop is held in a small group setting (20-25 participants); therefore, all attendees are strongly encouraged to attend for the entire duration of the meeting.

TSRC is about expanding the frontiers of science, exploring new ideas, and building collaborations. The workshop schedule will allow for substantial unstructured time for participants to talk and think. All participants are expected to stay for the entire duration of the workshop.

Scientists are encouraged to consider bringing family or friends. Telluride offers a number of options for children's camps (including Telluride Academy, Ah Haa School for the Arts, and Pinhead Institute). There is more information on childcare, camps, and family activities on TSRC's website at https://www.telluridescience.org/travel/families.
