Organic Particles in the Atmosphere: Formation, Properties, Processing, and Impact
07/29/2024 - 08/02/2024
Meeting Description:

The Telluride Summer Research Workshops are small (fewer than 25 people) and therefore provide an opportunity for participants to meet and discuss current research in detail, stimulate new ideas, and generate collaborations. It is our hope that participants will take advantage of the informal nature of the workshop to speculate, think out loud, or otherwise air ideas that are perhaps in their infancy. The participants in this workshop will all share a combined interest in understanding organic particles and their implications for the atmosphere, climate and air quality. The target list of topics that will be covered at the workshop include: chemical composition, mixing state, hygroscopic properties, optical properties, health effects, heterogeneous chemistry and processing (aging), secondary organic aerosol formation, instrumentation and applications, source apportionment, laboratory studies, regional, and global scale modeling.

Notes:

IMPORTANT: Participants should be aware that discounted lodging ends on Thursday, July 11th. To avoid the rate increase, you should depart on the 12th. If your flight out of Montrose does not leave until Thursday the 13th, we suggest eating dinner in Telluride on the night of the 12th, taking the shuttle to Montrose after dinner, and staying at the Hampton Inn (970-547-4120) next to the airport. You will receive a discount at the Hampton Inn by saying you are a TSRC scientist.

The registration fee includes lunch on Monday and Tuesday, breakfast every day of the workshop, a BBQ picnic on Wednesday, and a pizza dinner at the TSRC tent.

We wish to ensure an intimate workshop setting, with no more than 20 to 25 participants. If you are interested in attending, but have not received an invitation, please contact the workshop organizer before registering.

Telluride Science is about expanding the frontiers of science, exploring new ideas, and building collaborations. The workshop schedule will allow for substantial unstructured time for participants to talk and think. All participants are expected to stay for the entire duration of the workshop.

Scientists are encouraged to consider bringing family or friends. Telluride offers a number of options for children's camps (including Telluride Academy, Ah Haa School for the Arts, and Pinhead Institute). There is more information on childcare, camps, and family activities on Telluride Science's website at https://www.telluridescience.org/travel/families. Please contact Cindy Fusting at cindy@telluridescience.org for more information.
