The focus of this innovation workshop, part of the Grid of the Future workshops series, will be to discuss one of the topics we already know will be central to developing a full potential grid - the options and potential approaches for scalable energy storage for a modernized national grid. The workshop will assemble a cross-functional group of innovative researchers, engineers, and executives drawn from utilities, energy sector disruptors, investors, policy setting agencies, and the storage research and development community. The broad discussion of the requirements with an interdisciplinary group will introduce new perspectives, uncover new questions, and highlight possible breakthrough approaches to delivering an optimal solution.
The workshop will consider the following topics:

- What economic and engineering hurdles must be met to enable the most compelling future grid solutions?
- How many terawatt hours of energy storage do we need? How much short duration energy storage does the grid need?

Why Telluride, Colorado?
In addition to the inspiring natural setting of the San Juan Mountains and the Telluride Science & Innovation Center's ability accelerate productivity, Telluride played an important role with the development of our present grid. Nikola Tesla, along with George Westinghouse and LL Nunn, first tested Tesla's AC power theory in Telluride in the late 1800s. Their pilot resulted in the first-ever transmission of AC power from a hydroelectric power source to a town provided the inspiration for our current grid.

The Telluride Science & Innovation Center is about expanding the frontiers of science, exploring new ideas, and building collaborations. The workshop schedule will allow for substantial unstructured time for participants to talk and think. All participants are expected to stay for the entire duration of the workshop.

Cancellation Policy: Once a credit card has been charged, cancelled registrations will be subject to a cancellation fee. Registration fees will be automatically processed once registration is complete. A $25 cancellation fee will be retained from a registration refund. Lodging fee payments will be processed 60 days prior to arrival, and a $100 cancellation fee will apply if cancellations occur after a lodging fee payment is completed. Telluride Science can only guarantee a refund for the remaining lodging fees if requested prior to the cancellation deadline that is specific to each lodging provider.
