Functional nanostructures are at the forefront of many emerging applications. The workshop will focus on novel synthetic routes for the preparation of nanostructured materials using supercritical, hydrothermal and solvothermal routes and the incorporation of materials into device structures using strategies that include self-assembly, nanopatterning and film formation. The integration of synthetic routes to discrete nanostructures with strategies for the assembly into devices within a single workshop provides a unique opportunity to cross-fertilize the fields. We envision 8-10 participants each from the US, Europe and Asia, with about half of each group being senior researchers and about half being junior researchers, including assistant and associate professors as well as post-docs and senior graduate students pursuing academic positions. The workshop will be co-organized by Prof Tadafumi Adschiri (Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan), Dr. Cyril Aymonier (CNRS, Bordeaux, France) and Prof. James Watkins (University of Massachusetts).
