This workshop will provide a forum for presentation, discussion, and collaboration leading to frontier developments pertaining to interfacial chemical processes. The latter processes are here broadly defined to include those occurring at both molecular and macroscopic interfaces, such as solid-liquid-vapor interfaces, and the solvation-shells of ions, molecules, nano-particles, biological macromolecules and mesoscopic assemblies. The focus of this meeting is on understanding, predicting, and utilizing ways in which the molecular and electronic properties of such interfaces differ from those of the materials which create the interface. The first meeting is expected to highlight current experimental and theoretical debates and challenges concerning the distribution of both ions and electrons at interface, including hydrated electrons, the charge of air-water and oil-water interfaces, the affinity of various atomic and molecular ions for such interfaces, and solute-solvent charge transfer and its influence on thermodynamic and spectroscopic observables.
