In 2006, the spontaneous condensation of exciton/polaritons was observed in inorganic thin films by Kaspzak et al. This observation opens the possibility to study collective and macroscopic quantum phenomena electronic devices under relatively "normal" conditions. Exciton/polaritons are entangled quasi-particles formed through the strong interaction between electronic excitations and photons within a micro-cavity and behave as bosons in the low-density limit.
The physics and dynamics of these systems remain largely unexplored and much remains to be done. Hence, the purpose of our workshop will be to open lines of communication between theoretical and experimental efforts in this field and to chart out the development of possible new science and technologies based upon these systems. Furthermore, these systems offer ideal testing grounds for many fundamental theories involving superfluidity and superconductivity. Since the field is quite nascent, the TSRC format would provide an ideal setting for a focused workshop on this topic.
If you are interested in attending a meeting, but have not received an invitation, please contact the workshop organizer about availability before registering. Most TSRC meetings are very small, typically only about 25 people
