Semiconductor Surface Chemistry

Meeting Description:

This workshop has been running for 16 years with one meeting every 4 years. It was organized originally by my colleague, Professor Douglas J. Doren (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Delaware) and I helped him organize it in 2006. I organized the workshops in 2010 and 2014 and would like to continue in 2018. It is a very successful workshop with a great mix of young and seasoned scientists and everyone in the field is looking forward to these gatherings. 4 year intervals allow for substantial new science to be done by the people who had previously participated (about 50% of attendees) and for recognized developments of the new researchers in the field. Semiconductor surface chemistry has been at the forefront of chemistry, materials science, and engineering research for many years. The most recent developments are related to functionalization, passivation, and structure control of semiconductor crystalline surfaces, thin films, fibers, and nanostructures, building multilayer materials, removal of surface elements in atomically controlled fashion. In addition to elemental semiconductors, more and more surface chemistry research is directed at composite materials and carbon-based semiconductors. These are the areas that we plan to target and to invite the researchers currently involved in the cutting edge research related to these topics. I plan to invite approximately 23-25 people. This format worked perfectly well in all the previous meetings. There will be definitely no problems having about 25 people total for this workshop.

We wish to ensure an intimate workshop setting, with no more than 20 to 25 participants. If you are interested in attending, but have not received an invitation, please contact the workshop organizer before registering. If you have registered for a meeting you were not invited to, you may be subject to a $100 fee.

TSRC is about expanding the frontiers of science, exploring new ideas, and building collaborations. The workshop schedule will allow for substantial unstructured time for participants to talk and think. All participants are expected to stay for the entire duration of the workshop. Scientists are encouraged to consider bringing family or friends. Telluride offers a number of options for children's camps (including Telluride Academy, Ah Haa School for the Arts, and Pinhead Institute). There is more information on childcare, camps, and family activities on TSRC's website. Feel free to contact TSRC's staff to help with any planning and/or coordinating care.
